O Boy. And what a time it was. Really busy at the end there but a lot of fun. To update, I got in to the Pratt show which was a blast! so great to get to show at the Hammerstein Ballroom. On top of that I may be working at P.S.1 this summer which would be awesome! With all this excitement going on I haven't been able to update anything but as of tonight I have a carbon made which hopefully will showcase my work more fluidly than the blog format. However I will continue to post new work here and have that be an online portfolio. check it out: danfinch.carbonmade.com
As for the work, these are some pieces that I made at the end of the semester. I hope to continue this series because it was a lot of fun. hope you enjoy.

New Paintings

So, here are two more. This semester is almost over and that means my school career is coming to a close. I'm really enjoying the intense work output and am looking forward to having more time on my hands in the next couple of weeks to paint even more. Right now its been hard to juggle finishing up and really getting involved with these canvases. I'm just about finished another painting (pictures soon) and would love it if I could get another one finished before survey. We'll have to see about that but it would be great if it worked out. Make sure to check out the 4th floor of Stuben at Pratt institute next wednessday the 5th of May. Senior survey will be up.

Photoshop Collages

Recently I have been making a lot of collage and the best results have come from using Photoshop. This is odd, because my typical way of thinking is that hand made is best but not so with these things. Its almost like shorthand. I can have an idea of the image that I want then make it with photos really quick and then make something by hand (painting, drawing, print, etc.) with the digital sketch. Thats the best way to think of it I guess, as digital sketches. Anyway, here is the next lithograph that I'll be making. I'll be using a photoplate so if you could imagine the first with a half-tone dot instead of a gradient thats what it will be (i'll post when its done). The bottom one is a sketch for the next painting that I'm starting. The best thing about the whole process is that its so quick and I can move everything around until I get it just as I like it. I'm trying to get all of my work into a digital form in one way or another and here is some more. The First three are from a book I made about suburbia. The last image is a painting from Once Upon a Time in the West. All of these pieces are from this past fall and in there will be more new work coming up.

Hello again!!!

No idea how many times I've made the resolution to post more frequently. It seems that I produce faster than I can consume which isn't a bad thing. Anyway, I have just taken a lot of photos of my recent work so there will be some posts. To start these are two of the paintings that I've been working on. They are the closest to finished but there are 5 in the mix right now. More to come with that. The Prince one I posted about earlier and that is finished. The other I've been calling Jersey Shore. I like that one the best so far. It still has a little bit to go though.

Well here it is in progress. This piece is a big breakthrough and I've been working feverishly on it at the expense of my other classes but I'm really enjoying painting after taking such a long break. Can't wait to finish and start the next!

LONG TIME COMIN

Well after much neglect I post again. Today is the first day of the new (and last!) semester. I have been very busy curating a painting show at the R.A.T. (link here) as well as preparing for the semester by visiting all the cultural establishments I can. I have big plans in the works and hopefully if I don't get to busy/lazy/tired the progress will be charted here. To start I have a 44" square canvas that I stretched yesterday and will start painting by this weekend, also working on a film screen play and a book with Jack McGavick. More to come

this is another piece I did in collaboration with Patrick Quinlan for the R.A.T. gallery. It was tons of fun. As a first attempt at video I was very pleased with the results and felt very comfortable with the whole presentation, in fact there isn't a thing that I wouldn't change.
I also just realized that I've been drawing more than I thought so time for a mega post once I upload the pictures

here is a new sculpture that I made for the R.A.T. and myself. I guess it came out of the children's book that I just did but not consciously. I had an idea for a cascade of drawings and as I started to make it this just happened. Then after it was built I just started to paint it and this is it. I think I might make another but with drawings instead of just color, not sure but more to come definitely

Summer

I have finally tackled summer plans and I am very excited. I just got back from a non-for profit art space called Basekamp where I will be volunteering/interning this summer. I am really excited about it and everyone there seems really cool. I start tomorrow. Here is a link to there website http://basekamp.com/ check it out. Also I am scheduled to be spending time volunteering at Nexus Gallery (http://www.nexusphiladelphia.org/) which is also really cool but that doesn't start til later in june.
Hopefully I will have more work to post but my scanner is packed and I can't find my camera charger. O the woes of life. I have been making a lot and will hopefully have a cascade of drawings in the rat gallery for their next show. more on that later

Another long respite

Well, this endterm has been all consuming and very drawn out. I feel like I've been preparing for it for about a month and a half, but today was survey. I hope to get pictures up from it soon but for now here is some of the stuff that will be up. It's from a book I made called "A Wink's As Good As A Nod," with words by Lina Misitzis.

The last picture is a crapy shot of one of my paintings in my old apt. (r.i.p.). I need to get my paintings photographed and put up. This summer hopefully I can do a drawing a day.

This is a piece that will be in a show in Gardenville Pennsylvania. The opening is the 20th of this month. Also it will hopefully be the cover of Arche a Boston university philosophy journal, but still waiting to hear about that. more to come

Well, after much time away I have finally got my act together. Here is a sampling of new things from the semester. All of these were illustration assignments except for the "papa was a rodeo" drawing which was a song that was stuck in my head while drawing a model. Have lots of sketchbook stuff but somehow got into my housemates stuff and is in PA at his house. Hopefully it will be retrieved soon. more to come

The top one was yellow but uploaded blue but I kinda like it. Its digital color which is new to me the other 3 are sketchbook projects for M+M. enjoy

The power of sound was the concept but in critique it was brought up that I didn't do much with sound. My angle was to conceptual and a bit lost in translation I guess. a small revise to come probably

So.... I did my first job. that's right someone paid me to do drawings for them, and oh how nice it feels. I also learned a lot about how "the industry" works. There were about a billion revisions before the final sketches (pictures first) were approved and then the finals (second) took just as many revisions. How exciting! thanks

The Start

Well, I finally made it. This blog is intended to be an open forum for discussion. Hopefully I will post daily (or near daily) with my thoughts, inspirations, but mostly my work. I would like to hear what you all have to say and if you have any thoughts feelings suggestions feel free.
I don't want to make this too much of a manifesto, but I guess thats to late.

I would post my own work (that was my plan) but I can't find my camera or printer cord (of course) so instead I will post some of my favorites work. This is just stuff that I have been looking at at work.
